The word Scientology literally means "knowing how to know" and comes from "scio" (Latin for to know) and "logos" (Greek for study of). Scientology is an applied religious philosophy dealing with the study of knowledge. It is applied to life and the human spirit and its relationship to the physical universe in the endeavor to bring freedom and truth to the individual. Through the application of its knowledge, desirable changes can be brought about in individuals, making them more able to handle all the factors of life.
Through the application of Dianetics procedures the spirituality of humankind was affirmed, and thus was Scientology begun. With the affirmation of the human spirit, more research was embarked upon which is now embodied in Scientology studies and practices.
